Supersize orchestra
The
Dixieland Crackerjacks Supersize Orchestra made its debut in the year
of 2000. Initially it was asked to play just one gig with music in the
tradition of the big brass bands from New Orleans. The invitation came
from the organisers of the Cycling contest: Tour of Holland. The musicians
of the band liked it that much that they decided to try to get more work
with this enlarged orchestra so some pictures were taken and sent around
to spread the news. Two trumpets, two trombones, three saxes and three
rhythm made up this ensemble. Since then the band plays several times
a year at various events.
Despite the many musicians involved the music is only from head arrangements.
No charts or scores are used, to give the band members as much freedom
as possible. This results in a most spontaneous kind of music, as much
a pleasure for the audience to listen to as for the participants to play
it.

In the beginning the band played with 10 musicians,
for the Jazz festival in Kiel a Grand Marshall was added and in the
year 2005 the band was further enlarged to 12, when the rhythm section
was strengthened by using both snare and bass drums. |
